A Richmond Wedding at the Mansion: Allison and Nathan

August 25th, 2010

Today, we’re deviating a bit from the usual “What’s Going on in Richmond” post, as we simply had to stop everything the minute we saw these lovely photos from James Linkowitz Photography.

Allison and Nathan married here at Historic Mankin Mansion just last weekend, and we were thrilled to find James featuring photos of the Big Day on his Blog shortly thereafter.  Be sure to visit “A Summer Wedding. A Mansion Wedding.” to see the whole day.

The day was just wonderful as we enjoyed getting to know the families over the weekend. We were particularly swooning as soon as Allison dropped off the amazing place cards, we featured above.

A special thanks to James Linkowitz for sharing these gems with us!

See you soon,

Barksdale: A Night at the Theatre

August 18th, 2010

It’s always difficult to pick the event or activity for each week’s Blog. After all, our Concierge service for our B&B guests never runs out of wonderful ideas of things to do in the area.

After reviewing our blogs as of late, we realized that we hadn’t send along any kudos to Richmond theatre, and that is all about to change as we happily sing the praises of Barksdale Theatre, a local Theatre founded in 1953 which strives to offer high caliber productions of comedies, musicals and dramas in both their Willow Lawn and Hanover Tavern locations.

This September, Barksdale will be featuring Shipwrecked, as part of their Signature Season from September 17-October 24. According to their extensive web site–

Acting superstars Joe Inscoe and Scott Wichmann appear together for the first time in this thrilling NEW comic adventure. In England at the turn of the last century, real-life fantasist Louis De Rougemont gained notoriety for his riveting memoirs about oceanic adventures. With antic imagination and boundless energy, Inscoe and Wichmann enact a tale that will both dazzle and delight.

During the holiday season, they will be offering White Christmas, and Legacy of Light, a co-production with TheatreVCU, will start off the new year.

In addition to the Willow Lawn Theatre, the Signature Season is also featured The Empire Theatre, which was purchased and restored in the late 1980s.

Additionally, Barksdale a monthly event on the second Tuesday of the month called Coffee and Conversations, a moderated, informal discussion with the actors, directors and designers, sponsored by Rostov’s coffee.

Are you bringing young ones on your next trip to Richmond? Soon, we’ll post more on Theatre IV, which is fun for the entire family.

For more information about Barksdale and their upcoming events, please visit their web site. And if looking for a play to stay, you know where to find us!
