St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations are Upon Us!

February 28th, 2011

The famous day to wear green and claim to be Irish is upon us, and we are ready for all of the festivities Richmond has to offer.

The first event on our Irish calendar is Shamrock the Block in the historic Shockoe Bottom at the Farmer’s Market. The event will kick off the St. Patrick’s Day fun on Saturday, March 12 at noon. It is free to attend, but bring some cash to enjoy some good ole’ traditional green beer. Halligan Bar & Grill, located in Shockoe Bottom will bring delicious BBQ to the mix. All proceeds from this event will go towards a great cause the Greater Richmond SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now) Nonprofit Organization. On the 18th Street Stage bands will preform all day, everything from Celtic pub music to classic rock. Acoustic performers will be showcased on the Farmer’s Market Stage. So, come on out and celebrate St. Patty’s day with thousands of other Richmonders.

On Saturday March 26 and Sunday the 27 Church Hill will fill with the Irish and the wish they were Irish to enjoy the Church Hill Irish Festival. This street festival takes place in front of St. Patrick’s Church starting bright and early at 10am continuing on in to the night.

Traditional Irish musicians, bagpipers, and dancers will be preforming. There will be plenty of family fun with children’s games, face painting, and Irish crafts. Thirty Irish vendors will be there for all those shoppers out there. Food and refreshments will be available. Don’t miss out on the Irish Lasagna prepared by the Ladies of St. Patrick’s, fish and chips and other favorites prepared by Rare Olde Times Irish Pub.

We hope you explore Richmond and your Irish roots with these first of the season out-door festivals.
