Christmas in July!

June 27th, 2011

All the Christmas lovers out there will be happy to hear about this Christmas in July celebration at Short Pump Town Center, July 23 starting at 1 pm till 8pm.

This event is hosted by the Richmond-based band Offering, Short Pump Town Center, 98.9 Liberty, and Richmond Magazine and comes with a great cause, as it is meant to help those in need who use the services of The Central Virginia Food Bank.

November and December are historically popular times for generous outpourings of donations and support, but when the holidays are over the donations slowly dwindle. The event is to help boost generosity and donations by re-creating the holiday season. Shoppers are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items or monetary donations.

This is a great chance to shop ’til you drop in a lovely created winter wonderland. Music of the season played by local bands: Cold Harbor, Offering, The Taters, Chris Lucas and Laura Ann Singh while the GMWA Choir will serenade throughout the day. Santa and other holiday characters will drop by for the children to get in the sprit as well. Activities such as face painting, a bounce house, Christmas themed coloring stations, and much more will keep the little ones occupied. Special one-day sales in stores and food and drink samples from the restaurants located in Town Center will also be available. Raffle prizes will be given out every hour on the hour, tickets are $1 and all proceeds go to The Central Virginia Food Bank. Remember you must be present to collect your prize, so don’t stray to far.

This community event is for a great local Richmond cause, so we hope you come out and support The Central Virginia Food Bank because they need donations every month of the year not just during the holidays.

Children’s Museum of Richmond- $1 Night with Target

June 13th, 2011

The Richmond Children’s Museum is an amazing experience for the kiddos in your life, teaching them new things, while they are playing and being interactive.

The Museum offers multiple areas that each have a teaching aspect to it. The Art Studio allows children to explore their creativity with painting, drawing, and crafts. They use recycles items and child size tools to create innovative art. Blocks helps the children learn about colors and shapes. It also has a light box that allows them to play with different shapes and putting them together with a combination of colors.

You can also take an adventure through the Cave, which is newly updated for children and adults to explore and discuss the stalagmites and stalactites as they crawl through the space exploring. The Dairy Barn shows children that milk comes from a cow instead of the grocery store with a life size cow that can be milked.

The Dinozone is sure to be a show stealer, with their very own dinosaur Seymour. He has gotten some company recently; you can discover fossils in the dig pits. They have replicas of a Stegosaurus, and a baby Triceratops and Apatosaurus. The Little Farm has just recently opened also it is only for the little ones though three and under. There is a crawler patch that they can make there way through, a pretend pond that they can fish and ride a boat in. They learn sorting by types/shapes and colors through the farmers market.

The Living Tree House is an awesome way to get a bird’s eye view of the whole museum. The little ones can get some of their abundant energy while navigating through the tree. CMoR Playhouse will get the dramatic side out where the can put on a play or use puppets in the puppet theater. The Town Square is at the center of it all, which is a mini Richmond with cobblestone carpet, a school, grocery store, café, garage, TV station and so much more. Role-playing is used throughout the Town Square. James River Water Play, where you can float boats down the river. It offers the real features of the James, its islands, bridges and canal. Creating dams and making floods happens here. This is indoor water fun.

Target offers an amazing deal on the third Friday of every month. It only costs just $1 per person in the family for admission! This deal is only available at the CMoR’s central location in downtown Richmond. Come out and have some fun and learn some new things!
