On Sunday, August 7, on the mile of style of what is Carytown the festival will begin at 10am and continue till 6pm. With the festival being one of the largest in Richmond, 115,000 people are expected to pack the street and celebrate this yummy summer fruit. Stands for watermelon will be set up along the street, with over 3,000 brought in to satisfy all of the patrons. The proceeds for the purchase of watermelon will go to a great cause to benefit the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, that cares for children and advances the field of research in specialty areas.
Eighty musicians will perform on eight stages keeping the crowd entertained as they enjoy the day. A kid friendly area is a perfect place for the little ones to have some fun and enjoy some of that juicy watermelon. Over 100 exhibitors will be there to show off their companies and products. With Richmond’s record heat this year be sure to stay hydrated and cool by visiting one of several of the mist tents available that will keep you refreshed. Pets are welcome, so bring your four legged friends. Don’t forget to check out Carytown’s extensive shopping and restaurants. The event is free for admission; don’t forget to bring some cash for the outdoor vendors and delicious watermelon.
