If you haven’t noticed already, Richmond loves a great cultural food festival, and the Filipino Festival is no exception. With delicious traditional foods and authentic music and dancing, you will be sure to leave full and happy.
The Festival begins on Friday, August 12 at 5pm until 10pm in the evening and continues on Saturday starting at 10am until 10pm. The festival is put together by the congregation at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, which is also where the festival will be held.
Entertainment available on Friday night will include local bands The Five and Dimers a country band, Houston Scott Band that specializes in blues, and Janet Martin that has a rock, Americana vibe. On Saturday, folk dances will be on display, which will include the world-famous bamboo dance that is done both extremely fast and even blindfolded! Hip-hop dancing, singing, a Philippine martial arts demonstration, performers Elisabeth Carlton and Gregory Amos, and some cute little ones in a dancing parade will also be going on all day Saturday.
Have no fear as there are activities for the kiddos too. The children will enjoy playing on the playground, enjoying the inflatable bounce houses or having their faces painted. Exhibits will teach and show the traditions and customs of the Filipino culture.
Don’t miss out on all the food available! Favorites include lumpia, chicken adobo, pancit, and delicious BBQ chicken. A full list of food will be available, as well as descriptions of all dishes, on their website. Beer, water, soda, mango shakes, and a cantaloupe drink will be available for beverages. Admission to the event is free, however you can go ahead and purchase food vouchers before the event so you won’t have to worry about bringing cash. This festival is sure to leave your taste buds wanting more!
