Spring Trends We’re Loving!

February 23rd, 2015

Spring is just around the corner and you know what that means – wedding season will be here before you know it! Spring weddings hold a special place in our hearts- we have a soft spot for the lovely weather  and beautiful seasonal flowers.

We love keeping an eye out for what’s on trend in the wedding world and sharing them with our couples for inspiration. And today, we’re sharing a sneak peek on the blog! Take a look at some of the spring trends we’re looking forward to seeing in the upcoming months:

Pastels

One thing we’re looking forward to seeing in the upcoming wedding season is the variety of pastel colors that will no doubt be on hand for the big day. Pinks, blues, greens, yellows – you name it, we love it! From bridesmaids’ dresses to linens and décor, pastels are surely going to make a splash this spring!

Going Green

Green signifies harmony and growth in life, so we’re excited to see green accents coming up in the spring! We don’t just mean the color green, though; couples will also be going green, with recyclable and eco-friendly décor. Some fun ideas include using plants, as opposed to cut flowers, or providing seeds for guests to grow as favors.

Chalkboard

Chalkboard design is popping up everywhere and we can’t get enough of it! Whether actual chalkboards or simply chalkboard-themed invitations and programs, we love how sweet and customizable this motif can be.

Flowers, Flowers, Flowers!

Flowers in their hair, flowers in the air, flowers everywhere! While flowers have always been a key part of a wedding, they will be bigger and better this spring. We’ve already been caught swooning over brides’ flower crowns and garlands – keep them coming!

Naked Wedding Cakes

Naked cakes are pretty new to the scene, but they’re not going anywhere. Stripped of their exterior icing, these cakes go well with the natural, rustic theme. (Not to mention, less calories from icing means more cake, right?) These cakes can be made to fit any color scheme and can be adorned with flowers, as well!

What trends are you looking forward to most this season? Be sure to share in the comments!

The Intimate “First Look” vs. The Classic “Down the Aisle”

February 16th, 2015

When planning your wedding, you have to make many important decisions: the guest list, the season, and the venue. But at the end of the day, the most important thing about your wedding is the union between you and the person you love. A personal decision you will need to make is if you and your loved one would like to share an intimate “first look” together before the ceremony or if you would like to follow tradition and see one another at the altar after the walk “down the aisle.”

The Intimate “First Look”

A modern approach on how you and your fiancé, or fiancée, can choose to see each other before your “I dos” is the “first look.” The “first look” allows a quiet moment for you and your partner to share in private before the ceremony. This option can be set up with your photographer to capture the moment you see one another. Many couples will choose to stand in a special location back to back and then turn around to face one another for an exciting “first look” experience. This is a wonderful way to start off your married life together!

The Classic “Down the Aisle”

If you would like to stick to tradition, you can choose to see one another during the classic walk “down the aisle.” This is a special way to share your memorable moment with your friends and family. The classic “down the aisle” allows for you and your loved one to have time for the excitement of your marriage to sink in as you walk to meet at the altar. This is an excellent way to show and share your love with the guests at your wedding!

Creative Decoration Ideas to Use When You Say “I Do”

February 2nd, 2015

You’ve put a lot of thought into walking down the aisle, reciting your vows, and the very important first kiss as a married couple. Now make sure that the backdrop to all these exciting moments is just as special! Here are a few creative ways to decorate the ceremony site at your wedding:

Flower in vase

Get your Wedding Started in Full Bloom

All eyes are on the bride as she walks down the aisle, so why not make that walk even more lovely with the addition of flowers. There are a few ways to create a beautifully decorated aisle using flowers. One option is to take some pointers from the flower girl and have the border of the aisle blanketed with flower petals. Another is to attach a vase or bundle of flowers to the chairs along the aisle. If you want to try for something a bit more unique, try creating handcrafted flowers out of paper.

Brighten Up your Special Day with Lights

Use lighting to add a special glow to your ceremony. You can brighten the bride’s path to the altar with lanterns either hanging from posts or carefully located on the ground. Another way to utilize the magical sparkle of lights is to add a canopy of string lights at the altar.

Sign

Share a Special Message

As guests arrive to take their seats share a special message from the couple. Remind guests of the love that is taking place at the ceremony with signs declaring your love or a request to use a specific hashtag on social media with the pictures that they post. A fun way to share your message is on a framed chalkboard.

The possibilities are just endless when it comes to adding a bit of pizzazz to your ceremony!

Engaged? The First Three To-Do’s

January 19th, 2015

SAM_4798P

“Congratulations! You’re Engaged!” You can hear it 100 times, but it’s still exciting. If you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed in the magical first days of your engagement, you’re not alone. Planning a wedding is an enormous journey that you are about to embark upon. But, have no fear – there are ways to make it as simple as possible!

First, take a deep breath, relax, and start at the beginning. There are three things you need to do as soon as you get engaged:

Create Your Preliminary Budget and Guest List

Before you can choose anything, you need to know roughly how many guests you are expecting and how much money you can set aside for your wedding budget. Start by having parents make lists of people they would ideally invite, and compare those to your own guest lists. Get an idea for how large the number could become, and then make it a point to have some serious discussions about your priorities and your resources. Find out, as graciously as possible, if there will be any contributions to hosting your special day and start a basic budget with a realistic number. You’ll refine your monetary and guest list goals later, but you need a point from which to begin.

Pick a Season

Most brides want to book a date early on so they can mark it on all their calendars and start counting down. While there is nothing wrong with picking a favored date (be it an anniversary, a special family day, etc.), it’s best to be flexible and select a certain season or month in case your favorite venue is booked for a certain day. Consider different times of day – if you prefer an evening wedding, perhaps the long days of summer is your ideal season.

Start Shopping for Your Perfect Venue

Once you know how many guests you plan to invite, how much you have to spend and when you are hoping to wed, it’s time to really invest some time in choosing your perfect venue. You can’t take any further steps, including booking vendors or spreading the word about your date, until you’ve secured the place where you will tie the knot. Don’t forget – the best venues book early, so make this one of the very first stops on your way to wedding bliss!

Tiffany and Lander were such a lovely couple to host at the Mansion! The beautiful yellow hues of the floral arrangements brought a sunny vibe to their wedding and looked fabulous with complementing grey tones. The honey pot favors were a crowd favorite – they caused quite a buzz at the reception! These two are truly a match made in heaven and we can’t wait to share these photos with you.

Richmond Wedding: Jillian and Alec

December 1st, 2014

You may remember the wedding we featured a little while ago with a surprise flash mob to the tune of “Happy” by Pharrell Williams. Rodney the Ram also showed up to surprise these two VCU alumni! We just adore the contrast between the navy bridesmaids’ dresses and the pop of color from the bouquets. Here’s a closer look at that unforgettable night!
