Planning an Interfaith Wedding

December 2nd, 2013

An interfaith wedding is the blending of two different religions and cultural backgrounds. Since the 1950’s when interfaith couples made up just 20% of weddings in the United States, the trend has grown considerably in the 21st century. Today, 45% of weddings in the United States are made up of interfaith couples. When planning an interfaith wedding, it is important for the bride and the groom to stay true to who they are and what they believe, but to also be open to their new partners beliefs and remain open-minded when planning the big day.

Looking for inspiration for your own interfaith wedding? Good news! We have found some ways to help make the planning process go smoothly for everyone!

First thing’s first-  a serious talk is essential. Whether the conversation happened early on in the relationship, or after the engagement, you must make sure both parties have expressed what’s important to them to include in the wedding. It could be a particular prayer being read, a religious custom, or the choice in officiant, as long as the couple’s individual and common beliefs come through.

Another important part of bringing two religious backgrounds together is talking to both families. The couple should discuss how they want to approach each family, and make sure to show them a united front. That should eliminate a lot of conflict that could arise.

Some couples may opt for a more neutral ceremony and instead bring their cultural and religious backgrounds into the reception. Many cultures are identified by food, and it is such a fun and easy way to infuse both backgrounds together. Music and décor are both also great ways to accomplish that too.

Bringing two families together is not always easy, especially when there are differences in religion and culture. But with an open-mind, support for each other and a lot of love, it’s sure to be a wonderful day and a happy life!

Wedding Trend: Chalkboards

November 25th, 2013

Today we are excited to share some creative ways to incorporate a popular wedding trend, chalkboards! With the help of Pinterest, we’ve come up with a few different ways to use them:

Chalkboards are a great way to say thank you to all of your guests. In this example, the bride and groom chose to write their personal thank you for all their guests to see on their way out.

HMM Chalkboards 1

Chalkboards are perfect for the DIY bride. They allow you to be as creative or laid back as you want for your wedding. As shown below, the boards were used in a more simple way to direct guests where the ceremony would soon take place or as a personal welcome to arriving guests.

HMM Chalkboards 2

Another fun way to use this trend in your wedding is by displaying it as the timeline of your love story. Some details you may want to include are the dates of the engagement, first kiss, first date, wedding, etc. It’s a nice way for your guests to learn more about the happy couple!

HMM Chalkboards 3

During cocktail hour you may even want to use a smaller chalkboard as a way to showcase any special drinks available. This can be for the newlyweds’ signature drinks or beverage of choice.

HMM Chalkboards 4

Using chalkboards on your wedding day is a great way for you to be as creative as you want. They allow you to write any kind of message you want to your guests. Not to mention, it is a great DIY project for all brides!

Creative ways to say Thank You

November 18th, 2013

Having your friends and family present to celebrate with you on your wedding day is a wonderful thing.  Thank you messages to your guests are one way to show your gratitude and appreciation for their love and support. With help from Pinterest, we have found unique ways to say thank you through photography. Here are some of our favorites:

Multiple photos throughout the wedding is a great way for guests to see how special the day was. This is a cute thank you card option that is sure to really capture your love for one another!

HMM Wedding thank you 1

Sending a post card with a picture of the two of you officially as “Mr. and Mrs.” is another fun way to say thanks. Since postcards aren’t often used these days it will make it that much more memorable. And remember- a honeymoon pic could be a fun option as well!

If you’re looking for a more intimate shot to use on a thank you card, this next option may be a great one to consider. So romantic! :)

The use of sparklers spelling out thank you is a great option for an evening wedding, or another popular trend is to have the letters on fabric cut out individually along string held in between the bride and groom.

Wedding planning can sometimes be an overwhelming process and without the support of friends and family, it would be more difficult. Thank you cards are a perfect way to say just how much you’ve appreciated their support and presence on your wedding day. With so many unique and creative ways to do this, we hope we have inspired you when deciding how you want to deliver this message.

Trending Color Combinations

November 11th, 2013

One of the first things to check off the wedding planning to-do list is what colors are going to be the focus for the Big Day.  With so many to choose from, it can be difficult to pick, so knowing what the trends are can be very helpful. Luckily, we have been searching Pinterest to find some of our favorites:

In years past, selecting two or more colors was the norm, but this year, couples are opting to just pick one color and use the different shades of that color to create fun textures while still maintaining a cohesive theme.

Why pick just one or two colors when so many couples are deciding to choose them all? Rainbow is back with a bang and has turned into one of our favorite trends! Rainbow is such an easy way to create a statement piece at a wedding, like a sprinkle cake or colorful bouquets.

On the other end of the spectrum, couples are gravitating toward a beige and neutral wedding. These colors have such a warm and rich look to them, and we love the way they are making a comeback.

Make sure when picking a color theme it is strategically placed throughout the wedding ceremony and reception to avoid over-doing it. But remember, color is such a great way for a couple to show off their unique creativity.

Halloween Themed Weddings!

October 31st, 2013

Happy Halloween all! It’s that time of year again and we are excited to share some creative and fun ways to have your perfect Halloween themed wedding.

If you’re a bride who loves Halloween then  of course you’re going to love sweet treats! That brings us to our first idea when creating a Halloween theme, and that is how detailed you make your cake! After all, the cake is often referred to as the centerpiece of the reception, so why not highlight your theme and really go all out ? Tie in the colors that go along with Halloween with some crazy spooky designs, or even have your cake toppers as skeletons!

HMM Halloween 1

Every detail matters when putting together a theme and it’s no different on Halloween.  Consider incorporating token Halloween decor throughout the aisle. The guest book is another opportunity to take advantage , and we love how the bride and groom had guests sign an old parchment book with an ink quill to create a vintage vibe. As for your reception, creating a candy bar is a great idea to have guests go trick-or-treating! After all who doesn’t love candy?

HMM Halloween 2

For a more subtle approach,we loved the idea of having reclaimed wood signs as well as pumpkins on hand for the fall effect. Remember- it’s the little details that make a wedding memorable.

HMM Halloween 3

Something that caught our attention was how great this next idea was for a ring bearer! Have the rings in a coffin shaped wooden box with the words “Til Death Do Us Part” written on the front. This is perfect for the bride who loves a good DIY project.

HMM Halloween 4

When planning a Halloween themed wedding,  there are a variety of options to consider incorporating. With Halloween, be creative and don’t forget to have a little fun in the process!

Ceremony Decor Trends!

October 21st, 2013

Today we are excited to share some trending décor ideas that will dress up the wedding ceremony! With the help of Pinterest, we have found a few ideas and themes:

Lace has recently been making numerous appearances in wedding ceremonies. As you can see in this photo, it can be used to create a unique backdrop!

HMM SO 1

Another great option to consider when choosing décor for the ceremony is the use of ribbons and garland. In this example the ribbons and garland create an intimate setting for the happy couple to exchange their vows.

HMM SO 2

Those who like to think outside the box may like the idea of hosting an unusual ceremony space such as this example. Change things up by creating a unique space like this for guests to be seated on and around the alter area.

HMM SO 3

For anyone who loves to include their color scheme in the ceremony, this next trend might appeal to them. The ombre effect is something that has taken off in the wedding industry and we can see why with this beautiful example!

HMM SO 4

Having a unique backdrop to exchange vows in front of is another trend that will certainly create a romantic vibe. With this photo you can see many options that work such as draped curtains, interesting use of floral arrangements and woodwork.

HMM SO 5

Knowing what is trendy in the wedding world is always useful when planning the big day! We hope that these trends mentioned above gave some helpful inspiration to vamp up the ceremony decor.
