Great Fall Wedding Details

September 18th, 2013

As summer comes to a close and cooler weather starts rolling in, it can only mean that the fall wedding season is here.

With rich colors and beautiful scenery, this time of year has produced some of our favorite weddings. We’ve been searching Pinterest to showcase some great details that will help any wedding become an autumn dream.

Some of the brightest and most colorful flowers are starting to bloom in the fall, including chrysanthemums, forget-me-not’s and lavender. Adding these to a wedding bouquet is sure to make a splash while the bride walks down the aisle.

When someone thinks of fall, what is one of the first things that come to mind? Pumpkins! There are multiple ways to include this festive fruit in a fall wedding and some of the best we’ve seen are using them as aisle décor and table centerpieces.

Using the rustic backdrop of autumn for photos is a creative and inexpensive way to celebrate the season as well.

A well-known centerpiece at many receptions is the wedding cake. This sweet finish is a great way to show off a couple’s aesthetic as well as the theme or color palette they’ve selected. Plus, fall colors like plum or orange can really pop.

Let them eat pie! Nothing says fall like a pie table. Couples can opt to serve several different types in lieu of a wedding cake, or why not serve both?

Incorporating details from any season into a wedding is a wonderful way for any couple to put a unique and personal touch on their wedding. Embrace the fallen leaves and abundance of pumpkins to give your Big Day the personal flair it deserves.

The Great Gatsby Wedding

September 12th, 2013

People can’t get enough of the roaring twenties after the recent movie release of The Great Gatsby, which was inspired by the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel. Couples are continuing the buzz by throwing their own Gatsby-inspired wedding with vintage flair and a night of dancing and partying that would put Daisy Buchanan and Jay Gatsby to shame.

We have taken to Pinterest and found some great ideas on incorporating this theme that couples will love.

It wouldn’t be a Gatsby wedding without a 1920’s inspired wedding dress. Make sure to pack on the shimmer and art deco details to capture the full effect.

One of the most recognizable pieces from the 20’s era is the headpiece and pearls. With these accessories and a killer dress, the bride is sure to stun her groom and guests as she makes her way down the aisle.

Champagne, champagne, champagne! A favorite at any Gatsby party, a bit of bubbly is an absolute must.

Kick off this theme with vintage invitations that will put guests in a Gatsby state of mind. Maybe even include a feather headband!

Top the wedding off with a decked out cake fit for Daisy Buchanan herself! Making it a focal point at the reception is certain to inspire.

Whether it’s a few touches of this memorable era at a wedding or a full-scale roaring gala, the 1920’s has made a huge comeback in the last year, and it’s a theme we can’t get enough of. So pop a bottle of your best champagne, put on your flashiest flapper dress and get planning!

Mad Hatter Richmond Wedding Inspiration

August 15th, 2013

Like most weddings, the world of the Mad Hatter is filled with whimsy, wonder and just a pinch of magic. This world recently came to life at the Mansion during IYQ Photography’s bridal inspiration shoot. Our life-size chessboard was perfect for the theme and the model’s tea-length dress made us swoon. Enter this whimsical world while taking a look at some of the pictures from the day.

Enjoy!

Real Richmond Wedding: Yvonne and Sasha

August 12th, 2013

Yvonne and Sasha’s wedding at the Mansion combined two different cultures into one beautiful event. The bride glowed in her wedding gown but what we really loved was the red stunner she changed into during the reception. The custom chuppah, which the couple married under, was also a Mansion favorite- just stunning!

Seth Roberts Photography did an amazing job capturing every detail of this wedding. What we really love is how each picture, no matter how simple, tells a story. A story about two different people coming together to create a new culture of their own.

Enjoy!

Distinctive Wedding Seating Displays

July 22nd, 2013

Seating displays are a magnificent way to showcase your wedding theme and personality. The seating chart is usually the first item your guests notice when arriving at your reception location, making it an ideal opportunity to make a grand impression.

However, it can be quite difficult to nail down that absolute perfect design to symbolize your wedding theme and overall reception feel. But have no fear; our experts here at Historic Mankin Mansion have compiled a fantastic list of unique wedding seating displays that will surely make your guests excited for the reception.

Yarn

This display is very bright and can be used for numerous wedding themes. Simply purchase an assortment of yarn colors and types.  Once you have acquired all the necessary yarn, develop and print out nametags along with the designated table number or name. Lastly, use a fabric pin to attach the tag to the yarn. This display is not only beautiful, but the yarn is wonderful décor as well.

Heart Target

The heart target is not only breathtaking, but its look is decidedly modern, making it a wonderful seating display. The idea is to create a heart shaped target and then cover with arrows. The ends of the arrows are assembled with nametags matching your wedding colors. One of our favorites!

Ladder

This seating display is wonderful for a garden wedding. Take a ladder and construct a twine railing so you can attach your nametags. Then, you can dress the ladder up any way that best suits your wedding theme. We love this concept because it is so adorable and makes for an idyllic photo backdrop.

Tree

If your wedding theme revolves around nature, then this display is perfect for you. All the greenery and flowers create a whimsical touch making guest feel they have entered into a new world.

Frames

If you are having a vintage themed wedding, then this display is right up your alley. You can construct any backdrop to match your colors, add various picture frames and place your nametags inside. The display resembles a vintage wall and is great to dress up with trunks or a vintage chair. Stunning!

No matter what you choose, we are positive your seating display will be nothing short of amazing. Happy designing!

Real Richmond Weddings: Megan and Donovan

July 10th, 2013

Here at Historic Mankin Mansion, we pride ourselves on having the most beautiful and unique weddings in Richmond. Our recent wedding of Megan and Donovan is a perfect example of this. Mason jars and simple centerpieces created a classic and feel while candy stations and funky photo booth props kept this wedding feeling current and fun. Our favorite part of the day would have to be the joy of the bride and groom that is evident in every single picture because that is what weddings are really about.

All of the magic and excitement of the day was flawlessly captured by Chris Fessler Photography. His beautiful pictures illustrated this couples unique decorative choices and one-of-a-kind spirit because of this; his photographs of the event are truly a joy to revisit. Take a closer look at more of them here.

Ring Bearer Signs

July 8th, 2013

The ring bearer has been a wedding tradition for years and we all love watching those adorable children walking down the aisle holding their important signs. Couples choose their extraordinary additions very carefully and they range among various individuals that hold a special place in your heart. Ring bearers can be boys, girls, siblings, your best friend’s child, your own special little person or anyone you wish to make a part of your grand day. A bonus is dressing them up because let’s face it, children’s clothing is simply adorable!

The days, ring bearer signs are becoming more customized with verbiage above and beyond the traditional “Here Comes the Bride.” Although tradition is always heartfelt if you are looking for something a little more unique or quirky, you’re in luck. We here at Historic Mankin Mansion have compiled several options that will certainly inspire.

Baby Wagon

What happens if your special little person is too small to walk down the aisle? No problem! Place them in an adorable decked-out wagon and just pull them along, just put the sign on the back. This is so sweet your guests will be gushing over this fun detail.

here comes the bride

Your child

Nowadays, many couples getting married already have children, so why not give them a very important job? We love the personalized sign! It will make you so proud and tears will be just around the corner once you see that handsome guy in his tiny suit.

son sign

Humorous

If you’re going for a more laid back vibe, a humorous sign might be the best option for you. Plus, it is a good way to get your guest in the mind frame you desire for your big day.

last chance

Formal

This sign would fit perfectly for a southern outdoor wedding. The ring bearer is all decked out in his stunning suit but keeping things a little light with his sign.

Vintage

This has to be our favorite! We love the vintage feel captured by the ring bearer’s outfit (suspenders!). A simple block of wood is the perfect detail and easily becomes an addition to your wedding memorabilia.

No matter which road you choose to go down with your signs, there is no doubt in our minds that they will be sensational!
