Best Practices for Your Wedding Registry

April 18th, 2016

Ahh, the wedding registry – a fun process, but how do you avoid getting four sets of cutlery when you really only need one? While a registry is certainly helpful for your guests, let’s talk best practices on how to make it easy on you as well.

Go Together
If you’re going to go the old-fashioned way to register in-store, be sure to bring along your other half and make a day out of it. Not only can you have fun dreaming up your ideal home, but you’ll also be sure that the only gifts you receive have both of your approval!

Take it Online
Signing up for wedding registries in-store can take up a good chunk of time, so it may be more effective to take a shot at registering online. Most stores that offer in-store registries also allow you to do the same by simply shopping their website. Can’t decide where to register? Check out Zola.com which allows you to save products from all over the Internet.

Have Fun(d)
As many couples are living together prior to their wedding, they may not have the need for extra sets of sheets or a high-end blender. If that’s the case and you find that there isn’t much you really need, consider setting up a fund for guests to contribute to your honeymoon or mortgage. Guests don’t have to feel bad about bringing cash to a wedding, but they can still know that they’ve helped a good cause. And hey – there’s no reason you can’t have a shorter registry just for that stand mixer. :)

Whatever your decision is, remember to have fun with the registry! Keep your guests in mind as you don’t want to ask too much of them, but enjoy the time with your partner at the same time. At the end of the day, your wedding is about your new life together – not the gifts you receive!

Spring 2016 Trends

February 29th, 2016

That’s right – spring is right around the corner! We’re so excited to see what our weddings have in store and we just couldn’t wait to share a few things that have been catching our eye lately.

Gold & Glimmery

We’re seeing all things metallic this year! As we watch silver exit the stage, we welcome gold, copper, and our personal favorite, rose gold. Expect this year’s metallics to sparkle as well – folks are really embracing the elegant touch and we couldn’t be happier! Perhaps all that glitters really is gold.

Keep it Green

Organic details are in! From raw wood to natural herbs, couples are including accents that embrace nature and the results are just stunning. These details pair great with rustic themes, but can also look incredible blended into glam celebrations. An added benefit of natural herbs is the subtle yet lovely fragrance that comes with them!

Go Long

Couples are starting to move away from the traditional round table setup, while opting for long farm style tables. Not only are long tables visually appealing, but they also are great for conversation and family-style menus!

His & Her Drinks

Rather than sticking to a solo signature cocktail, go all out and serve two special drinks – his favorite and her favorite! If budget is of concern, stick to a beer or wine mixer – it’ll go a much longer way than liquor cocktails!

Late Night Bites

From donuts to cheeseburger sliders, everybody loves a good late night snack. Thank your guests with a goodbye treat to send them on their way – they’ll be very appreciative!

Incorporating Culture into Your Wedding

February 8th, 2016

If you’re looking to add a special touch to your wedding day, there’s no better way than incorporating a bit of your and/or your partner’s cultural traditions into the event. We love seeing the different rituals and intricate details that come with a multicultural wedding. From cuisine to décor, there are a number of ways to share your roots on your Big Day.

Dancing
Chinese lion dances. The Hora. Mendhi. Kalamatiano. Many cultures have a special dance reserved for weddings, so why not bring one out for the crowd? Be sure to let your venue and/or planner know in advance, in case any props are needed.

Music
From steel drum bands to a mariachi band, music can really bring a taste of tradition to your wedding day. If you’re not ready to commit, consider opting for cultural music at the ceremony only or asking your DJ or band for a special parents’ dance request.

Attire
Don some traditional garb for your wedding day and prepare to shine. Can’t seem to let go of that gorgeous white wedding dress? Pick out a secondary dress for the reception that speaks to your heritage – it’s the best of both worlds!

Best of 2015!

January 18th, 2016

Before we get too far into 2016, we wanted to take a look at some of our favorite wedding shots from 2015. We had a wonderful year, from start to finish, and we look forward to the wonderful weddings to come in 2016!

Taneesha and Yoni’s beautiful spring wedding was filled with just that – love!

We loved Carter and Sam’s dance in the pergola. How romantic!

Emily and Brady decorated the grounds with 1,000 handmade paper cranes – it was such a wonderful touch to their wedding (and made for great photos)!

We loved that Shannon and Kevin crossed the street to take this shot with the pond. What a beautiful spot!

Sydney and Wil’s emotional first look stole our hearts!

Cheers to Becca and Stuart (and their winning grey and blue combo!) – we had a wonderful time with them!

Congratulations to all of our incredible brides and grooms who tied the knot with us in 2015 – we hope married life is treating you splendidly!

Considerations for Selecting Accommodations

December 28th, 2015

Chances are, you’ll be having out-of-town guests coming to visit for your wedding weekend. If that’s the case, you’ll have consider the accommodations that they’ll stay at while in town. There are a number of different types available – from on-site bed & breakfasts and quirky, boutique hotels to your traditional hotels. Before making any decisions, you’ll want to take your guests into consideration. So what factors help determine the best fit?

Size of Guest List
How many people will be coming from out-of-town? This will determine the size of the room block that you’ll need to request. With advanced notice, traditional hotels are often open to booking a certain wing or hall for your guests so they can all stay in one place.

Age of Guests
Are there a lot of children attending your wedding? How about grandparents? Before signing on any dotted lines, check to see if a certain place offers handicap suites for elderly guests and/or kids’ activities for any down time.

Transportation
Consider the distance between your guests’ accommodations and the wedding venue, if they’re not at the same site. If it’s not walking distance, will a hotel provide a shuttle to the venue? Here at the Mansion, we work with select local hotels that send shuttles both before the ceremony, as well as at the end of the night. This saves guests the headache of driving and also allows them to loosen up a little at the open bar. If a hotel does not provide a shuttle, do a bit of research into transportation options – you may want to book a luxury coach or a trolley, if available.
