HMM in the News: Richmond Weddings!

March 17th, 2012

After years of assisting brides and grooms plan the best day of their lives, we’re always excited when the opportunity comes along to share our expertise with other couples. We were just thrilled when Richmond Weddings Magazine featured our recent guest blogs on two topics that are particularly near and dear to us.

The first feature focuses on what brides should do immediately after they get engaged. After all, planning one’s wedding can be as fun as it can be overwhelming so nothing is better than making sure you get off on the right foot. Click HERE to read on.

And just this past week, we loved sharing our thoughts on big weddings versus small weddings. As you can imagine, every bride is going to think differently when it comes to the size of her well so we were happy to chime in and dig deeper into both options. Click HERE to read more.

Our sincere thanks to our friends at Richmond Weddings Magazine for the opportunity!

Keisha and Brady’s spring wedding was just full of lovely, personalized details, captured here by Seth Roberts Photography!

If ever there was a perfect day…April 30, 2011 was it!  The weather was beautiful, the grounds at Mankin Mansion were stunning, we were surrounded by our closest family and friends, and as we stood there before each other life just felt so good!  From the vows that we wrote to each other, to the travel theme of our reception, to our unique menu, and diverse music.  The fact that it was all so personal to us is what made April 30, 2011 so very special.  If we could do it all over again, we wouldn’t change a thing!  Our photographers, Seth and Emily Roberts, took amazing photos.  Our caterer, White House Catering, served a delicious menu.  And Martin, Paula, Meghan, Mary Catherine, and the rest of the Mankin crew were awesome in every respect, at every step along the way, from planning to perfect finish!  We truly had a picture perfect wedding!

Now remember-this year’s blog series is going to be a bit different as each wedding will be featured on the Historic Mankin Mansion Blog and the top three posts with the most blog and Facebook comments will be selected as finalists.  Each wedding will receive one more feature and the one with the most Facebook and blog comments by the deadline will be the winner!  This year, we’re taking it up a notch as we will be hosting a contest along with it for a complimentary overnight room stay at the Mansion, as well as a gift certificate to one of Paula and Martin’s favorite restaurants in town.

Best of 2011: Heather and Brandon!

January 30th, 2012

Today, we’re back with our Best of 2011 series, where we get to revisit some of our favorite weddings from last season. Today, we’re thrilled to share the wedding of Heather and Brandon! This was our very first wedding of the year and was a great start to the year to come.

As Heather and Brandon told us-

HISTORIC MANKIN MANSION – AMAZING

My husband and I met through mutual friends. It was literally love at first sight. We were engaged a year and a half later. I immediately started looking at different venues online and found Mankin Mansion. It was once again love at first sight! The grounds are gorgeous with brick pathways and candlelit lanterns everywhere.  From the wedding planners to the grounds-men, the staff is simply delightful! Our wedding was the first one for the year! May I say we were not expecting 16 tornadoes to touch down in Virginia. We moved our ceremony into the tent and it was magical! They made it out as if we were royalty. It could not have been any more intimate. Thank you to all of the staff at Historic Mankin Mansion for making our wonderful day AMAZING!

Best of 2011: Danielle and Michael!

January 16th, 2012

Today, we’re back with our Best of 2011 series, where we get to revisit some of our favorite weddings from last season. Today, we’re thrilled to share the wedding of Danielle and Michael!

We knew from the first time we met with the couple that this was going to be a party filled with fabulous music and personal touches to pay tribute to the heritage.. and boy were we right!

As Danielle and Michael told us-

We could envision our wedding the first time we visited Mankin Mansion.  Dusk settling over the brick gazebo, the lanterns lighting the pathways with a soft glow …the scene was enchanting.  The actual day was even better.  As we were welcomed by the smiling face of our wedding planner, we knew we wouldn’t have to worry about a thing.  All around us were each of the little touches we had spent months planning, come to life:  the orchids on each table, the collage of our families in the parlor, the songs we had chosen with friends in mind.  Music is very important to us both, so to make our Salvadoran guests feel at home, we asked Martin, Mankin’s DJ, to include some of our favorite Latin songs.  He arranged a perfect mix, just as we had anticipated.

The grounds themselves offered the perfect setting for an evening to celebrate the joining of two families.  Grandparents sat near the gardens quietly telling their stories, young cousins put the life-sized chess board to use, and friends congregated around the gazebo where cocktails were being served. For weeks afterward, countless guests told us it was the best wedding they’d ever been to’… and we couldn’t agree more.

Best of 2011: Alex and Scot!

January 13th, 2012

Today, we’re back with our Best of 2011 series, where we get to revisit some of our favorite weddings from last season. Today, we’re thrilled to share the wedding of Alex and Scot! Alex and Scot was one of our long distance couples this year and we had a blast planning with them.

Alex told us-

The whole day was wonderful. Everything turned out better than we could have ever imagined. Historic Mankin Mansion is such a beautiful place on its own, but with the touch of the employees that worked there, it became our dream come true.

One of the things we loved most about Historic Mankin Mansion was how well the other companies worked in conjunction with the Mansion. The photographer, caterer and florists had all worked with the mansion before so the ceremony and reception went on without a hitch. Another favorite of ours was the reception. At first, we thought the time allotted for the reception wasn’t enough; we had to end at 10 p.m. and the ceremony started at 5. But Historic Mankin Mansion ensured us it was plenty of time so we put our trust in them and we are glad we did because it turned out wonderfully. Everything ran so smoothly that it felt like the reception lasted forever.

One of the highlights of the evening was when we made our grand entrance into the reception tent. We wanted to do something out of the ordinary and decided to enter to the song Chariots of Fire by Vangelis. If the name of the song doesn’t ring a bell, it’s what just about every movie plays whenever there is a slow motion scene….and we did just that! We ran into the tent in slow motion, Scot even fake tripped. We were so nervous this would be a failure but it really turned out amazing and people LOVED it. With that entrance and other small touches to the wedding, the whole evening turned out just how we wanted it: fun and a good laugh. Without the help of Meghan and her staff we would’ve been lost. It may seem that any professional can make these things happen, but Historic Mankin Mansion really impressed us with their professionalism and how smooth everything ran. We got our fairytale wedding thanks to them!

Mansion Weddings: Meet Gina

December 28th, 2011

With the New Year fast approaching, we here at Historic Mankin Mansion have added a few additions to our lovely Mankin family, so we’ll be dedicating several of our upcoming posts to these wonderful people!

Today, we’re just ecstatic to introduce you to Gina. Many of you may actually already recognize her- not only was she a bride with us, but she has worked closely with us over the last few years as an assistant planner.

As a former Historic Mankin Mansion bride herself, Gina brings with her tons of great ideas, a contagious smile and some serious organizational skills! Gina spent last Summer and Fall training closely with our 2011 team and is already knee deep into some fabulous planning for 2012.

We thought we’d sit down with Gina for a few minutes to give you a little more insight-

Why did you decide to join the wedding industry?

Gina:I chose to join the wedding industry because after planning my own wedding I realized how much I enjoyed every detail that went into the planning process and the excitement of seeing it all come together on my big day!

What is your favorite part about planning weddings?

Gina:My favorite thing about planning weddings is working with the couples and seeing their unique visions for their big day come together.

Any recent wedding trends that caught your eye?

Gina: The wedding trend that has caught my eye in pictures is when the bride puts jewels on the bottom of her shoes to spell I DO.

What are you most looking forward to in the 2012 wedding season?

Gina:In the 2012 season I am looking forward to all of my brides and grooms dreams coming true!!

We can’t help but agree- some of our favorite moments take place at the end of a Mansion wedding when the bride and groom tells us that the day was the wedding of their dreams. Nothing better than that!

See you soon,
~Paula and Martin Ramirez
