Best of 2015!

January 18th, 2016

Before we get too far into 2016, we wanted to take a look at some of our favorite wedding shots from 2015. We had a wonderful year, from start to finish, and we look forward to the wonderful weddings to come in 2016!

Taneesha and Yoni’s beautiful spring wedding was filled with just that – love!

We loved Carter and Sam’s dance in the pergola. How romantic!

Emily and Brady decorated the grounds with 1,000 handmade paper cranes – it was such a wonderful touch to their wedding (and made for great photos)!

We loved that Shannon and Kevin crossed the street to take this shot with the pond. What a beautiful spot!

Sydney and Wil’s emotional first look stole our hearts!

Cheers to Becca and Stuart (and their winning grey and blue combo!) – we had a wonderful time with them!

Congratulations to all of our incredible brides and grooms who tied the knot with us in 2015 – we hope married life is treating you splendidly!

Creating Your Wedding Dream Team

January 4th, 2016

Nabbing a superb dream team of wedding vendors is the ultimate way to get your big day off the ground without a hitch. For the newly engaged couples embarking on the path to matrimony for the first time, deciding who should be in your backcourt can be a bit challenging. Planning a wedding requires several moving parts and you’ll need help keeping the wheels turning! Take note of these wedding vendors that every couple needs to make their special day a monumental celebration!

Wedding Coordinator
The coordinator will help design, plan and manage your wedding from start to finish. Booked as part of a venue package or through a separate company, this person will be a much needed stress reliever throughout your journey to the aisle. Their services can include budget preparation, venue scouting and rounding out an awesome team of vendors.

Photographer
You’ll need a professional snapping gorgeous pictures during your wedding! Take it a step further by seeking out a vendor that will provide video services with their photography package. The more moments  that can be captured from your wedding day, the better!

Caterer
Great food is an excellent facilitator of social bonding! The caterer can help craft a custom menu that will have your guests sharing memorable moments over delicious food and drinks. During your initial consultations with potential caterers, ask about add-ons like ice sculptures, chocolate fondue fountains and other specialty decor.

Venue
There are many options for wedding and reception venues from museums and churches to gorgeous estates. Your wedding coordinator will be well-versed on the who’s who of wedding venues in town so lean on their expertise!

With these vendors, you’re on your way to assembling a wonderful group of wedding experts. However, the buck doesn’t stop here – don’t forget the DJ or band, florist and baker! Each member of your crew will be excited to bring your dream ceremony to life so get out there and start crossing off your vendor checklist!

Considerations for Selecting Accommodations

December 28th, 2015

Chances are, you’ll be having out-of-town guests coming to visit for your wedding weekend. If that’s the case, you’ll have consider the accommodations that they’ll stay at while in town. There are a number of different types available – from on-site bed & breakfasts and quirky, boutique hotels to your traditional hotels. Before making any decisions, you’ll want to take your guests into consideration. So what factors help determine the best fit?

Size of Guest List
How many people will be coming from out-of-town? This will determine the size of the room block that you’ll need to request. With advanced notice, traditional hotels are often open to booking a certain wing or hall for your guests so they can all stay in one place.

Age of Guests
Are there a lot of children attending your wedding? How about grandparents? Before signing on any dotted lines, check to see if a certain place offers handicap suites for elderly guests and/or kids’ activities for any down time.

Transportation
Consider the distance between your guests’ accommodations and the wedding venue, if they’re not at the same site. If it’s not walking distance, will a hotel provide a shuttle to the venue? Here at the Mansion, we work with select local hotels that send shuttles both before the ceremony, as well as at the end of the night. This saves guests the headache of driving and also allows them to loosen up a little at the open bar. If a hotel does not provide a shuttle, do a bit of research into transportation options – you may want to book a luxury coach or a trolley, if available.

How to Plan a Cocktail Reception

November 16th, 2015

More couples are opting for cocktail parties over traditional wedding receptions. While going the more classic route is great, going against the grain with a cocktail party could completely transform your wedding experience. You and your guests will love all of the perks that cocktail parties have to offer. If you’re ready to jump in on the latest trend in wedding receptions, we’ve got you covered!

Invitations
The first step to planning your amazing cocktail party is making it plainly clear in your wedding invitations that you are doing so. You don’t want guests arriving to your cocktail party expecting a three-course meal. Explicitly state that there will be hors d’oeuvres and drinks in order to avoid any confusion.

Venue
When choosing a venue for your cocktail reception keep in mind that the object of the game is for everyone to have an incredible time mingling and getting to know one another. Choose a venue with enough space to suit your crowd and think outside of the box during your research process. Art galleries, bistros and all-inclusive wedding sites, such as Historic Mankin Mansion, are perfect locations for cocktail receptions.

Food & Drinks
Having a variety of appetizers to pass around your cocktail reception is key. It is essential that you have enough hors d’oeuvres to satisfy your guests since there will not be a formal sit-down dinner. Miniature hamburger sliders, veggie skewers and crostini are great menu items that will be easy for your guests to handle as they move about the room. It’s important to mix up your drink menu as well. Order a selection of beers, red and white wines, and soft drinks for guests who don’t drink alcohol. However, don’t forget the signature cocktail – your celebration won’t be complete without it!

No one can resist a good party with tasty food and drinks galore. Consider a lively cocktail party for your wedding reception – you won’t be disappointed!
