Using Technology to Plan Your Wedding

June 6th, 2016

These days, the world is more plugged in than ever and couples planning their wedding are taking full advantage. More and more the answer to the question, “Is there an app for that?” is yes. From list making apps to budget management to wedding website creation, wedding planning has arrived in the 21st century and we’ve got some great examples of how tech is on the scene.

Organization Apps

We all know the struggle is real when planning a massive event and keeping it organized, and even more so when that event is your wedding! There are several wedding specific apps that can help with that. Apps like Plan The Day will keep you organized with checklists, vendor management, guest list management and vendor management. The WeddingWire app also has similar features, along with a budget section to help keep you on track!

Wedding Website

Couples are no longer bound to paper when relaying information for their wedding day. With the rise of the wedding website, there are countless options (free and paid) that will let you create a personalized website with pictures, your love story and any information you want to include. Some companies are even expanding their services from not just wedding websites but also planning tools. Appy Couple is a great example of this.

Picture Sharing

As a society that seeks instant gratification, the wedding hashtag has become not just popular, but basically mandatory at weddings. By using a hashtag, the couple and their guests are able to see pictures and videos instantly of the wedding all in one place. This can be a great tool for newlyweds who want to take a trip down memory lane. While Instagram tends to be the most popular photo and video sharing tool for weddings, other apps like WedPics have emerged as helpful tools to gather everything posted online into one place.

With technology growing at a crazy rate, there are endless app options for planning your wedding, you just have to find what’s the right fit for your planning style!

Turn Your Wedding Day into a Wedding Experience

May 23rd, 2016

Your wedding is the most memorable and important event of your life up until now. So why not turn it into a full weekend experience, rather than only celebrating on one day? We’ve got a few ideas to kick the wedding experience up a notch for you and your friends and family.

Venue Weekend

If your wedding is at a resort, inn, or hotel, ask to book it through Monday. You can have the place to yourselves with family and friends to relax and unwind the day after the wedding. This way when you say goodnight after the reception, it’s not also goodbye and you don’t feel rushed!

Group Activities

Get together with a city tour group ahead of time and set up a fun tour for you and your wedding party to go on the day before or after your wedding. Or plan a scavenger hunt throughout the city that’s reflective of everyone. For example, send them to an old favorite hangout, or former apartment buildings friends used to live in and throw the best parties at. The options are endless with this one!

Brunch

For something a little less labor intensive than a scavenger hunt, plan a brunch for your wedding party and family the next morning at a restaurant close to the hotel everyone is staying at. This is a great opportunity to spend more quality time with the most important people that attended your wedding. It’s also fun to hear and share some of the stories from the night before!

All of these are great options for your friends and family to have an amazing wedding experience, but remember that the most important thing is that everyone is together and there to celebrate the biggest day of your life!

We were over the moon to see that we were included in this fun Southern Living roundup of hidden wedding venue gems in Virginia. We were picked as the perfect fit for The Estate Couple and we couldn’t be more thrilled – we’re delighted that our happy home was chosen to be one of the favorite spots of our state! We take pride in our property and we’re always so excited to welcome couples to our grounds. Plus, it’s a perfect site for any history buff or architectural lover!

Best Practices for Your Wedding Registry

April 18th, 2016

Ahh, the wedding registry – a fun process, but how do you avoid getting four sets of cutlery when you really only need one? While a registry is certainly helpful for your guests, let’s talk best practices on how to make it easy on you as well.

Go Together
If you’re going to go the old-fashioned way to register in-store, be sure to bring along your other half and make a day out of it. Not only can you have fun dreaming up your ideal home, but you’ll also be sure that the only gifts you receive have both of your approval!

Take it Online
Signing up for wedding registries in-store can take up a good chunk of time, so it may be more effective to take a shot at registering online. Most stores that offer in-store registries also allow you to do the same by simply shopping their website. Can’t decide where to register? Check out Zola.com which allows you to save products from all over the Internet.

Have Fun(d)
As many couples are living together prior to their wedding, they may not have the need for extra sets of sheets or a high-end blender. If that’s the case and you find that there isn’t much you really need, consider setting up a fund for guests to contribute to your honeymoon or mortgage. Guests don’t have to feel bad about bringing cash to a wedding, but they can still know that they’ve helped a good cause. And hey – there’s no reason you can’t have a shorter registry just for that stand mixer. :)

Whatever your decision is, remember to have fun with the registry! Keep your guests in mind as you don’t want to ask too much of them, but enjoy the time with your partner at the same time. At the end of the day, your wedding is about your new life together – not the gifts you receive!
