Best of 2011: Danielle and Michael!

January 16th, 2012

Today, we’re back with our Best of 2011 series, where we get to revisit some of our favorite weddings from last season. Today, we’re thrilled to share the wedding of Danielle and Michael!

We knew from the first time we met with the couple that this was going to be a party filled with fabulous music and personal touches to pay tribute to the heritage.. and boy were we right!

As Danielle and Michael told us-

We could envision our wedding the first time we visited Mankin Mansion.  Dusk settling over the brick gazebo, the lanterns lighting the pathways with a soft glow …the scene was enchanting.  The actual day was even better.  As we were welcomed by the smiling face of our wedding planner, we knew we wouldn’t have to worry about a thing.  All around us were each of the little touches we had spent months planning, come to life:  the orchids on each table, the collage of our families in the parlor, the songs we had chosen with friends in mind.  Music is very important to us both, so to make our Salvadoran guests feel at home, we asked Martin, Mankin’s DJ, to include some of our favorite Latin songs.  He arranged a perfect mix, just as we had anticipated.

The grounds themselves offered the perfect setting for an evening to celebrate the joining of two families.  Grandparents sat near the gardens quietly telling their stories, young cousins put the life-sized chess board to use, and friends congregated around the gazebo where cocktails were being served. For weeks afterward, countless guests told us it was the best wedding they’d ever been to’… and we couldn’t agree more.

Now remember-this year’s blog series is going to be a bit different as each wedding will be featured on the Historic Mankin Mansion Blog and the top three posts with the most blog and Facebook comments will be selected as finalists.  Each wedding will receive one more feature and the one with the most Facebook and blog comments by the deadline will be the winner!  This year, we’re taking it up a notch as we will be hosting a contest along with it for a complimentary overnight room stay at the Mansion, as well as a gift certificate to one of Paula and Martin’s favorite restaurants in town.

Best of 2011: Marisa and Dave!

January 9th, 2012

Today, we’re back with our Best of 2011 series, where we get to revisit some of our favorite weddings from last season. Today, we’re thrilled to share the wedding of Marisa and David, who married at the Mansion this past summer!

We chatted with Marissa about her inspiration for her wedding day, which was drawn from the Mansion itself as well as her family. Her favorite details from the day include her dress, which was from The Vineyard Collection of Priscilla of Boston, the Barbeque fare from White House Catering, her pink peonies bouquet and Historic Mankin Mansion.  It was evident from the onset that Marisa and Dave offer their guests personalized touches throughout the day. Everyone was touched when Marisa entered the ceremony area, being escorted by her mother. Later in the festivities, the guests enjoyed pie tarts of banana cream, coconut cream and chocolate mousse in lieu of a wedding cake.

As for her favorite moment, Marisa shares,

“Our wedding day was more than Dave and I could have ever imagined. Historic Mankin Mansion and our wedding planner, Meghan Ely, made the process of planning and the big day effortless. Our guests still talk about how beautiful this venue is.”

Best of 2011: Elizabeth and Patrick!

January 6th, 2012

Today, we’re back with our Best of 2011 series, where we get to revisit some of our favorite weddings from last season. Today, we’re thrilled to share the wedding of Elizabeth and Patrick!

As Elizabeth told us-

When I started the wedding planning process, I had a very general idea of what I wanted.  I had dreamt of something outside, something elegant, fun and different.  I knew I wanted something that was not “cookie cutter.  On a whim and a suggestion from a friend we decided to check out Historic Mankin Mansion.  The first day we showed up for our initial meeting, I knew I had found the dream place for my wedding.

Upon meeting Martin and Paula, we instantly felt comfortable and we knew this would be a perfect match.  We loved everything about the planning of our wedding to our wedding day.  What I appreciated the most was that Mary-Catherine took care of everything for us and I never felt stressed or anxious about anything.  We were able to enjoy every minute of our wedding day.  From the music that got everyone up and dancing to the ease of walking between our ceremony to our cocktail hour to our reception, we could not have asked for a better day.

Our friends and family are still talking about the great time that they had at our wedding and how impressed and surprised they were with everything.   Historic Mankin Mansion was truly the something different, the something elegant and the something fun we were looking for.

We could agree more with Elizabeth- we knew she was the perfect fit when we met her and started diving into her wedding planning!

Best of 2011: Blair and Nick!

January 4th, 2012

Today, we’re thrilled to be starting off our Best of 2011 series, where we get to revisit some of our favorite weddings from last season. As you  may remember from our recent post, we’re changing things up a bit this year. We asked bride’s to share not only their photos but a bit about their Big Day as well.

Up first, we’re excited to share Blair and Nick’s wedding from this past summer. We dare say that Blair likes wedding blogs as much as we do and did a wonderful job add incorporating special touches into her wedding day. A bit more from Blair-

Our wedding day, July 1st, 2011, was a beautifully sunny and an uncharacteristically cool summer day, which was perfect for our outdoor wedding and celebration. When I first broached the subject of an outdoor wedding in Virginia’s July climate, my fiance looked at me as if I were crazy, but all turned out for the best. Family and friends traveled from all over to help celebrate our special day and the beginning of our lives together. The vendors we chose to help assist us in creating our special day could not have possibly done a better job. Our day was filled with nothing but love and happiness, and luckily, not an ounce of stress! :)

This year’s blog series is going to be a bit different as each wedding will be featured on the Historic Mankin Mansion Blog and the top three posts with the most blog and Facebook comments will be selected as finalists.
