Richmond International Wine Excursion

October 18th, 2011

The Richmond International Wine Excursion presented by MARTIN’S is bringing International wine and cuisine to Richmond on October 28th – 29th for everyone to enjoy the finer things in life.

The RIWE is a two-day wine and food excursion that will take you on a whirlwind trip throughout several different countries to experience the best that each region has to offer. The event helps to benefit the American Civil War Center at Historic Tredegar, a non-profit organization that helps to keep history alive and well in the Commonwealth on the Richmond waterfront. This year the event is celebrating the sesquicentennial of the 150th anniversaries of the Civil War and the emancipation of slavery.

This event is designed to give each and every attendee a “culinary journey around the world that enlightens, entertains and surprise.” The two-day event has several different ways to enjoy the wine and food with Walk-Around Grand Tastings, luncheons and seminars.

The Culinary Village at Historic Tredegar will be the hosting site for the event, with everything taking place under temperature controlled tents to ensure an enjoyable experience no matter what Mother Nature throws their way. Each year the event will pick a particular region or two to showcase the best wines available, with this year features of Spain and Portugal.

The Lexus of Richmond Walk-Around Grand Tasting will have an extensive 25o plus wines, 100 wineries, with 12 countries represented. During the wine tasting small plates will be available for purchase featuring globally inspired cuisine. On Saturday in the Wine Garden the Farm-to-Table Locavore Luncheon will take place. This is a must attend event that pairs local cuisine paired with wines from the U.S. and around the world. Several other events will take place and more information is available on their website.

We hope you take time to have an international experience in the heart of Richmond!

We have a Winner!

December 19th, 2010

As the wedding season comes to a close, it’s time for us to buckle down and gear up for the 2011 brides. It was time for a fresh look, so we’ve been working hard behind the scenes to update our folder, which is distributed to all prospective Historic Mankin Mansion brides.

We are grateful that many of the great Richmond wedding photographers have shared some great shots with us over the last several years. As we finalize our new folder, however, we knew we needed a particularly special shot.

As you may remember, we launched our contest “Hit us with your Best Shot” recently and asked brides, grooms and wedding photographers to join in on the phone. We were hoping for that perfect shot- that showcases the magic of the Mansion at its very best.

After careful consideration of over 40 images, we had selected the below photography by Dale and Roshan Quarterman of Quarterman Photography, to serve as the main shot on the front cover of our new folder.  Congratulations!

Thanks to all of those who participated in our contest- we are grateful for your participation!

Visions of Sugar-Plums Danced in Their Heads

December 6th, 2010

Richmond is so chock full of Christmas traditions, it’s difficult to pick just one thing each week to blog about during the month of December. This week, we are ecstatic to share that the Richmond Ballet will soon begin its traditional production of The Nutcracker.

The Nutcracker is Central Virginia’s longest running Christmas Tradition. The Richmond Ballet is accompanied by the Richmond Symphony. They will serenade you with live music accompanying the ballerinas. The Holiday Classic of Clara and the Nutcracker will come to life at the Carpenter Center in Downtown Richmond. The Ballet uses amazing techniques to make you feel like you jumped right into the pages of the book. Falling snowflakes, a fifty foot dragon, and the land of sweets where the sugar plum fairies twirl. You won’t want to miss a second of this amazing production.

The Opening night starts December 10 and continues on to December 23. Certain shows offer a extra special treat if you have children attending with Clara’s Tea Party. Where you will enjoy tasty treats and tea with Clara and her fun friends, bring the camera to snap photos with your favorite characters.

Come enjoy the experienced dancers and musicians who put on an unforgettable performance, which will be sure to have sugar plum fairies dancing in your head.
