Best Practices for Your Wedding Registry

April 18th, 2016

Ahh, the wedding registry – a fun process, but how do you avoid getting four sets of cutlery when you really only need one? While a registry is certainly helpful for your guests, let’s talk best practices on how to make it easy on you as well.

Go Together
If you’re going to go the old-fashioned way to register in-store, be sure to bring along your other half and make a day out of it. Not only can you have fun dreaming up your ideal home, but you’ll also be sure that the only gifts you receive have both of your approval!

Take it Online
Signing up for wedding registries in-store can take up a good chunk of time, so it may be more effective to take a shot at registering online. Most stores that offer in-store registries also allow you to do the same by simply shopping their website. Can’t decide where to register? Check out Zola.com which allows you to save products from all over the Internet.

Have Fun(d)
As many couples are living together prior to their wedding, they may not have the need for extra sets of sheets or a high-end blender. If that’s the case and you find that there isn’t much you really need, consider setting up a fund for guests to contribute to your honeymoon or mortgage. Guests don’t have to feel bad about bringing cash to a wedding, but they can still know that they’ve helped a good cause. And hey – there’s no reason you can’t have a shorter registry just for that stand mixer. :)

Whatever your decision is, remember to have fun with the registry! Keep your guests in mind as you don’t want to ask too much of them, but enjoy the time with your partner at the same time. At the end of the day, your wedding is about your new life together – not the gifts you receive!

Plan Smartly and Avoid these Top Wedding Mistakes

April 11th, 2016

With your wedding day on the horizon, you surely feel like you’re up to your ears in details, decor, and more. Whether you love it or not, there are plenty of ways to ensure a smooth journey to your Big Day – so be sure to read on and take these tips into account as you get closer to tying the knot.

First Things First
Before doing anything else, sit down with your partner and settle on a budget. This is the very first step you should take to ensure that you don’t overspend. While you’re at it, keep in mind some of the most often missed budget categories – alterations for your gown (it may not come custom fit!) and gratuity for vendors. There’s no point planning up your dream Pinterest wedding only to be disappointed that you can’t afford it. Be sensible, map your finances, and then get to the fun stuff!

Room Blocks
Don’t wait until the last minute to book your guest accommodations. Not only will your guests be grateful to have their rooms reserved ahead of time, but it’ll also be easier for you to plan if all of your guests are staying at one hotel rather than having to coordinate transportation to pick them up from different places.

Delegate Your Day
When the Big Day finally arrives, it’s prudent for you to delegate a day-of point of contact. Whether it’s a family member, maid of honor, or another person who will be with you and can make decisions, share their phone number with your planner prior to the wedding day. This will make it easier on both you and your planner – you won’t feel bombarded and they won’t have to run around trying to find you!

Eat Up
Believe it or not, this is one that is oft forgotten by couples. With all of the hustle and bustle of day-of preparations, it’s actually rather easy to forget to eat! That being said, it’s one of the most important things you can do – with such a long day ahead of you, you’re definitely going to need your energy. Plan to have breakfast and/or lunch with your wedding party while you’re getting ready to make sure everyone is well fed. You may also want to stash a few energy bars in your MOH’s purse or Best Man’s pocket in case you need to refuel later in the day.

Last but Not Least
At the end of the night, you’re probably going to be exhausted as your sore feet take you home. But wait – what about all of the decor you shelled out for? And you certainly don’t want to pay the fees for not returning the florist’s vases, right? While everything does need to go somewhere, it doesn’t have to be you that ensures it gets there. Assign someone to take charge after the wedding ends, gathering all of the leftover items and keeping them in one place until you have the time to sort through everything.

Wedding Party Gift Ideas

March 21st, 2016

Planning a wedding is not an easy task. Thankfully, most couples have wonderful friends and family that will do anything to make sure their Special Day runs smoothly. Thus, it’s only fitting that newlyweds share a token of their appreciation with the people they’ve chosen to stand beside them at the altar. Check out a few gift ideas that your loved ones will cherish!

Bridesmaids
Nothing says “thank you” like a day of pampering! Give your girls a chance to put their feet up by treating them to a day at the spa. You could also bring the fun to your bridesmaids by handing out gift baskets filled with beauty and bath products. Miniature baskets for your junior bridesmaids are a fun idea as well! On the other hand, items that will hold a lifetime of sentimental value, such as custom friendship bracelets or picture frames, are also great!

Groomsmen
Men love getting dressed up too, so give your groomsmen a hand! Enhance your guys’ wedding looks with engraved pocket watches or cuff links. Keepsakes like vintage  flasks, personalized drinking glasses and beer cozies can be thrown into their goodie bags as well.

Parents
Scrapbooks and photo albums are excellent gifts that can help you reflect on the memories you’ve shared with your parents. Within those memories, also highlight the lessons that have helped you become the person you are today. Personalized handkerchiefs are another wonderful medium for expressing your gratitude.

Partner
There are many ways to express the love you have for your partner with a gift. Simple things like exchanging love notes to creating a painting, if you’re an artist, are very thoughtful ideas. However, you can never go wrong with diamond jewelry – hint, hint! Watches, bracelets, earrings, or necklaces are all great options for a bride or groom to wear down the aisle. Moreover, digital cameras and a new set of luggage are useful gifts that can get couples ready for their honeymoon.

You certainly can’t go wrong with these gift ideas. As long as you put a little thought and cleverness into your selections, your loved ones will appreciate the effort and gratitude!

Food & Beverage Tips and Tricks

March 14th, 2016

Wedding receptions are a time for celebrating and bonding over delicious food and drinks. Thus, couples should go the extra mile to get their dining options just right. From buffets to open bars, there are many ways to serve your guests. However it’s important to be kind to your budget and go with what best suits your unique wedding needs. Let’s run through a few tips and tricks that will help you craft a memorable catering experience for your guests!

The size of your guest list should always dictate the style of dinner you will be having at your reception. For instance, buffets are great for large parties, but can be wasteful if you don’t intend on having that many mouths to feed. However, the casualness of buffet style dinners is excellent for couples that aim to have a more relaxed atmosphere.

Another great option for the more casual couple is to have a cocktail reception. Unlike a traditional dinner setting, guests at cocktail receptions munch on heavy hors d’oeuvers throughout the night. This is cost-effective considering that you don’t have to pay for full meals and you can save money on tables and chairs. Just remember to leave a note in your wedding invitations letting your guests know that they won’t be receiving a full meal.

If you’re interested in more intimate dining options, plated and family style dinners are excellent choices. For plated dinners, caterers bring out plates of food to serve guests. On the other hand, family style dinners feature large dishes of food placed at each table for guests to serve themselves.

After you’ve squared away your dining options, it’s time to think about how you’ll be serving up the beverages. The most popular choice for couples is to have an open bar – a catering option that includes paying a flat fee for an unlimited round of drinks for guests. Having an open bar can be expensive, but there a several ways to put a limit on the menu that will better serve your budget. For instance, you could choose to only offer wine, beer and a signature cocktail. Having set hours for the open bar also helps.

For couples planning smaller receptions, you can often find packages that will allow you to pay per drink in lieu of a flat fee. Whichever beverage option you choose, stay away from cash bars! Your guests will not appreciate having to shell out money at your wedding.

As you can see, there are dining options that can suit each couple’s unique wedding experience! Keep these tips and budget tricks in mind while hunting for a caterer and you’re bound to have a delightful reception that everyone will love!

Spring 2016 Trends

February 29th, 2016

That’s right – spring is right around the corner! We’re so excited to see what our weddings have in store and we just couldn’t wait to share a few things that have been catching our eye lately.

Gold & Glimmery

We’re seeing all things metallic this year! As we watch silver exit the stage, we welcome gold, copper, and our personal favorite, rose gold. Expect this year’s metallics to sparkle as well – folks are really embracing the elegant touch and we couldn’t be happier! Perhaps all that glitters really is gold.

Keep it Green

Organic details are in! From raw wood to natural herbs, couples are including accents that embrace nature and the results are just stunning. These details pair great with rustic themes, but can also look incredible blended into glam celebrations. An added benefit of natural herbs is the subtle yet lovely fragrance that comes with them!

Go Long

Couples are starting to move away from the traditional round table setup, while opting for long farm style tables. Not only are long tables visually appealing, but they also are great for conversation and family-style menus!

His & Her Drinks

Rather than sticking to a solo signature cocktail, go all out and serve two special drinks – his favorite and her favorite! If budget is of concern, stick to a beer or wine mixer – it’ll go a much longer way than liquor cocktails!

Late Night Bites

From donuts to cheeseburger sliders, everybody loves a good late night snack. Thank your guests with a goodbye treat to send them on their way – they’ll be very appreciative!
