July 14th, 2018

How cute are these two lovebirds? Amanda and Max had the most beautiful brunch wedding – imagine mimosas, bloody mary bars and chicken and waffles (yum!) We loved working with these two and are so glad they are a part of our Mansion family forever! Here are some photos from Awesomesauce Photography!

RW: Becky and Paul

June 21st, 2018

It was the most beautiful day in February, and we couldn’t have asked for better weather! Our sunshine danced must have worked because it was a day full of warmth (both from the sun and from all the love that came from this adorable couple). Every detail from this wedding was stunning, from the pale blues, touches of maroon and pops of gold it was simply magical. Lisa Mims Photography, did an amazing job of capturing every moment and detail of the day, check them out below! To see more from her gallery, click here!

Meet our lovely interns!

May 16th, 2018

How cute are this year’s Spring 2018 Mansion Interns? Leslie and Paria are mass communications students at Virginia Commonwealth University, and Lauren is a public relations alumna from James Madison University. All three work hard to help our planners with the couples’ big day! From responding to hundreds of emails to creating wedding day magic on our grounds, we are so grateful to have had these hard-working gals on our team!

Paria: “Interning at the Historic Mankin Mansion has made my love for weddings grow and has made me excited to work in the events industry post graduation.”

Lauren: “I have loved interning at Historic Mankin Mansion these past few months because it has not only given me the opportunity to learn more about weddings and events, but it has also allowed me to work on all aspects of them, which have been amazing experiences!”

Leslie: “Interning at Historic Mankin Mansion this semester has been amazing! Being able to experience the ways of the Mansion first hand is really going to help me in my end goal, which is to become an event planner.”

If you are interested in interning with us, we’d love to hear from you and talk all things involving events! Please email us at planning@historicmankinmansion.com.

What Makes a Venue Perfect for You?

April 13th, 2015

There are so many gorgeous venues to choose from, but how do you decide which venue is right for you? Here are some of the top things to consider when choosing a venue!

Tone and Style

The venue you choose has a huge impact on the tone of your wedding. If you have a specific tone or style in mind to help set the mood of your event, be sure that your venue matches what you have in mind. For example, the Historic Mankin Mansion is the perfect venue for a vintage, romantic styled wedding. Having the right venue allows for an easier time decorating because you already have the ideal backdrop!

Location

You may love the idea of choosing a far off venue location, but think about how accessible the location will be for your guests. If you are planning on having a large wedding, you’ll need to make sure that your guests will realistically be able to get to the location of your venue. You will also need to consider transportation and hotels in relation to your venue. Is it easy to find parking near your venue, or will you need to provide a bus or car service to bring guests to your venue from a different location? If many guests are from out of town and will be need a place to stay, are there hotels near your venue? As you can see, location plays a huge role when deciding which venue works for you!

Budget

When deciding on your venue, it’s imperative to keep your budget in mind. Certain venues can drastically help or hurt your budget! For example, is your venue full-service or not? If not, you will need to hire additional vendors to provide seating, lighting, planning, and other necessities, on top of the cost of renting the venue. Having to find and pay for your wedding services may be more expensive than choosing a venue that already provides all the things you love and need!

What are your tips for choosing the perfect venue? Be sure to leave your ideas in the comments!
